Wang Shixian and Chong Wei march into singles finals

Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei lived up to their top billings as they reached the men’s single. And in women’s singles finals China’s Wang Shixian still have a chance to dominate in the US$500,000 VICTOR BWF Super Series Finals in Chinese Taipei on Saturday.

Chong Wei, who has won 35 international titles in his career, thrashed Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 21-17, 21-18 in semi-finals. This match is his third consecutive Super Series in this year. Meanwhile, Wang Shixian reached the final after in semi-finals she beat Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong 21-15, 21-14.

Chong Wei, the Olympic silver medallist, had suffered a surprise defeat to the Thai ace in the Asian Games team event. But he got his revenge when he ousted Ponsana from the singles event of that same tournament.

In final he will play the winner of the Peter Gade-Chen Long match which takes places later on Saturday. Chong Wei defeat the Dane in straight games in their Group A match on Friday while Chen Long has yet to lose a match.

“I am prepared for either Gade or Chen Long in the final. Both are good players and it will be tough to play either one of them. The final is a different game and past results will not matter. But I am playing well and am ready for the challenge,” said a confident Chong Wei.

Wang Shixian who has had a stellar year, will face the winner of the Wang Yihan-Bae Youn Joo semi-final. China’s Wang Yihan has only drop one game so far but South Korean Youn Joo will be a tough beaten.

Chong Wei committed to giving his best on Super Series Finals 2010

For the five-day tournament, Lee Chong Wei’s coach, Misbun Sidek will not by his side. But Lee Chong Wei committed to giving his best performance in the VICTOR BWF Super Series Finals which begins tomorrow.

The VICTOR BWF Super Series Finals is for the great eight players and pairs. Their rank based on the Super Series Standings in 2010. After winning six Super Series titles, Chong Wei topped the Super Series standings this year. He was a winner in Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and England. He was also victorious in two Grand Prix Gold events in Macau and Malaysia. In the team and individual events titled Commonwealth Games, he got two gold medals.

Misbun was at his side for all of his victories. But he decided to resign from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on Dec 31. However, it has yet to be accepted. The top officials within BAM are keep trying to persuade Misbun to change his mind.

Chong Wei said, “I don’t want to be drawn into all this at the moment. My main focus is the Super Series Finals (in Taiwan) followed by the Malaysian Open. However, I do hope to see Misbun seated behind me when I’m playing at Bukit Jalil (for the PROTON Malaysian Open from Jan 18-23),”

The other players who have qualified for the VICTOR BWF Super Series Finals men's singles event are European champion Peter Gade from Denmark and his teammate, Jan O Jorgensen, winning of the 2010 Denmark Open, 2010 World Championships silver medallist Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia, and the talented youngster Chen Long, Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh, Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana and China’s Du Pengyu

Three-time world champion Lin Dan, who had limited appearances on the Super Series circuit this year, failed to qualify. He only finished the season in 11th place in the Super Series Standings.
