The left handed Lee Hyun Il, who won the 2011 Kumpoo Macau Open last week, claimed his second Grand Prix Gold tournament of the year consecutively, when he took home the men’s single crown at the US$120,000 of the 2011 HWASUN VICTOR Korea Grand Prix Gold on Sunday.

In finals, he dispose his compatriot Wah Ho Shon 21-18 21-16.

Sung Hyun Ko-Yeon Seong Yoo created an upset when they ousted firts seeded Jae Sung Jung-Yong Dae Lee 21-15 24-22.

The only one of Chinese women’s singles challengers, the incredible Li han, went down to the second seeded Sung Ji Hyun. Sung Ji Hyun finished the jorney of the fenomenal Li Han straight games, 21-18 21-16.

In womens doubles, Hye Won Eom-Ye Na Jang grabbed their first ever international tournament title when they defeated fourth seeded Shinta Mulia Sari-Lei Yao of Singapore, who defeated the Indonesia pair Anneke Feinya Agustin-Nitya Krishinda Maheswari. The Korean had to work in 45 minutes 21-15 21-16 win.

In mix double sector, Jang Ye na partnering with Yo Yeong Soeng also won the title after defeating another Koreans pairs Ki Jung Kim-Kyung Eun Jung 21-17 21-19.

Lee Hyun Ill beating China’s former World Champion, Chen Jin


Korea’s most experienced shuttler, Lee Hyun Ill had to work hard to win his Men’s Singles semi-final after beating China’s former World Champion, Chen Jin in the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold, in Korea, on Saturday, December 10.

The left-handed Korean delivered phenomenal performance in the opening set of the match. While, Chen Jin struggled hard to find a good flow but failed to anticipate the variations of his world number 11 Korean rival. The Korean set up a good lead in the opening games with a score 21-17.

But Chen Jin played wonderful badminton in the opening second set and easily took it with an impressive margin. He was perfect in his shot selection as his strokes laded in the right areas of his opponent’s court. Chen Jin force the rubber games after taking this games 21-13.

In the last games, Lee Hyun played in the similar style as he maintained his pressure on Chen Jin, who tried to put up strong resistance but failed to level the match as his opponent was playing far better badminton. Lee Hyun played at his best speed and remained successful in taking the game with a tight score of 21-18.

Lee Hyun, who is the third seed, finished up the match in rubber games by working for one hour 20 minutes in the court.

In the final Lee Hyun will face his compatriot Wan Ho Shon, who defeated the 22-year-old Arif, who is currently World Number 64 in the other semi-final in the 2011 Korea Open Grand Prix Gold

Li Han : China’s incredible shuttler


China’s incredible shuttler, Li Han has reached into Women’s Singles final after thrashing another Chinese Li Xuerui,  in the semi-final of the 2011 HWASUN VICTOR Korea Grand Prix Gold on Saturday.

The passionate Han has proved her worth by reaching in the title match of the tournament.

Han played stunning badminton in the opening set of the match and won it with a superb margin. While, Li Xuerui opened the first set in slowly way which helped the lower ranked Chinese shuttler, Li Han to remain ahead in the whole set.

Han played with incredible aggression and showed no sign of slowing down in the whole game. She moved forward in a stunning way by playing to her full potential and took first game 21-16.

In the second game, Li Han played fast badminton even her opponent was also playing at the same speed. The higher ranked Li Xuerui put up a little resistance in the opening rallies of the second game but Han controlled the rallies and finished up the second set with a great margin.

In the whole game, Li Han remained focused by showing no mercy to the fifth seed and finished up the second game with a score of 21-12.

The end result of this 25-minute Women’s Singles fight was 21-16 and 21-12.

In the final of the championship, Han will take on Korean women’s single Sung Ji Hyun, who defeated Liu Xin of Chinese in the other semi-final match.

Tommy Sugiarto showed his best performance


The 5th seed, Tommy Sugiarto back to back showed his best performance. It was proven at the 2011 HWASUN VICTOR Korea Grand Prix Gold on Thursday.

At the match which played at afternoon, world number 19 Tomy Sugiarto succeed to defeat Taiwan’s Jen Hao Hsu, 21-11 15-21 21-14 in last one hour 5 minutes.

At the last eight, Tommy Sugiarto will face the favourite Lee Hyun Ill, who defeated Ye Wook Rho 21-12 21-7 which held in the second session.

In the first set, Tommy Sugiarto showed his class as a rising shuttlers. He took the first game easily, 21-11.

Tommy was in trouble in the second game where he trailed. Jen Hao Hsu began to fight back by dominating the game. Several times Tommy Sugiarto could not anticipate opponent’s smash. Almost all of this second round, Jen Hao Hsu didn’t give the Indonesian a chance to set it up the game. Tommy suffering a 15-21.

Unfortunately in the last game Tommy Sugiarto clinched the win with a 21-14 win.

Tommy Sugiarto defeat marked as the only Indonesian mens single representative in quarter-finals after Bronze Olympic medal, Sony Dwi Kuncoro dan his compatriot Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka  failed at the sime time.

Meanwhile, Hong Ji Hooon mark a history for his carrier on badminton, while he surprisingly beat the fourth seed from Chinese, Wang Zhengming. Zhengmin stretched un-seeds Hong Ji Hooon of South Korea to three games before suffering a 21-19 18-21 15-21 defeat in one hour 27 minutes.
