Wang Yihan’s revenge with straight set


On Sunday, China’s Wang Yihan won the tittle on badminton’s richest tournament on earth, VICTOR Korea Open Superseries Premier. This Premier Super Series offers US$1.2 million in prize.  Wang Yihan’s victory deny team mate Wang Shixian a third title of the month.

That match was also sweet revenge for Wang Yihan who lost last week’s PROTON Malaysia Open Super Series final to her compatriot, who also took over her world No. 1 ranking after winning in Kuala Lumpur.

Wang Yihan’s 21-14, 21-18 victory in the first OSIM BWF World Superseries Premier. That meant she has now beaten Wang Shixian three times in five meetings.

In the opening game they played with long rellies, effected the pace match as the players were not as explosive. Normally they perform with attacking each other with a minimum numerous unforce error.

Wang Shixian only led twice in the opening game when she took the first point and then five points in a row to lead 6-1. Wang Yihan then change the tempo to take the next seven points to lead 8-6. It was a lead she never relinquished as she went from 10-10 to 15-11 before winning six of the next nine points to win the opening game 21-14.

The second game was much closer as the players traded points.  At first, Wang Yihan leading all the way until Wang Shixian took three points in a row to lead 9-7. Wang Shixian went into the half game interval 11-8 ahead and although Wang Yihan drew level at 11-11. On that position, Wang Shixian try to up her game and she reeled off three quick points to make it 14-11.

The world No. 1 continued to lead until 17-15 when the third seed found an extra gear to win the six of the next seven points to clinch the match.

Wang Zhengming and Tommy Sugiarto reach main draw of the VICTOR Korea Open Superseries Premier


The two new stars, China’s Wang Zhengming and Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto have just reached the main draw of the VICTOR Korea Open Superseries Premier. Both of two palyed well with comprehensive victories in Seoul on Tuesday. They fire up to reach the main draw of badminton’s richest tournament, which offers US$1.2 million in prize. The duo also reached the main draw in PROTON Malaysia Open Superseries as well, the opening round of the 2011 OSIM BWF World Superseries calendar.

On Tuesday, Wang Zhengming had an easy start. His Malaysian opponent Pei We Chiung decided to walkover. However, it was a different story in the game against Denmark’s up and coming star Hans-Kristian Vittinghus. Hans-Kristian Vittinghus was seeded second in the qualifiers.

The Dane upset the home supporters when he defeated Lee Hyun Il 21-3, 20-22, 21-15 in the first round. However, Wang Zhengming still better and he fought tooth and nail and never lost focus on match. In the first game he lost 21-19. But he picked up his game and began to dictate the pace in the next two games. Finally he got the two games 21-17, 21-14 that enter him to main draw.

In main draw, Wang Zhengming will face against Japan’s Kazushi Yamada. Meanwhile Sugiarto, will face China’s Lin Dan in the opening main draw. Joining them in the opening round are France’s Brice Leverdez (picture) and Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki.
