Wang Yihan’s revenge with straight set

On Sunday, China’s Wang Yihan won the tittle on badminton’s richest tournament on earth, VICTOR Korea Open Superseries Premier. This Premier Super Series offers US$1.2 million in prize.  Wang Yihan’s victory deny team mate Wang Shixian a third title of the month.

That match was also sweet revenge for Wang Yihan who lost last week’s PROTON Malaysia Open Super Series final to her compatriot, who also took over her world No. 1 ranking after winning in Kuala Lumpur.

Wang Yihan’s 21-14, 21-18 victory in the first OSIM BWF World Superseries Premier. That meant she has now beaten Wang Shixian three times in five meetings.

In the opening game they played with long rellies, effected the pace match as the players were not as explosive. Normally they perform with attacking each other with a minimum numerous unforce error.

Wang Shixian only led twice in the opening game when she took the first point and then five points in a row to lead 6-1. Wang Yihan then change the tempo to take the next seven points to lead 8-6. It was a lead she never relinquished as she went from 10-10 to 15-11 before winning six of the next nine points to win the opening game 21-14.

The second game was much closer as the players traded points.  At first, Wang Yihan leading all the way until Wang Shixian took three points in a row to lead 9-7. Wang Shixian went into the half game interval 11-8 ahead and although Wang Yihan drew level at 11-11. On that position, Wang Shixian try to up her game and she reeled off three quick points to make it 14-11.

The world No. 1 continued to lead until 17-15 when the third seed found an extra gear to win the six of the next seven points to clinch the match.

Wang Shixian focus on world and olympic medals

Wang Shixian keep take a chance to continued her winning run when she captured the PROTON Malaysia Open Superseries. This tournament is the opening event of the 2011 OSIM BWF World Superseries. She also immediately declared to win medals at the World Championships later and Olympic medal in London.

The 21-year-old from Jiangsu Province, who captured the VICTOR BWF Super Series Finals crown in Chinese Taipei earlier this year feel be honour. She said winning those medals will be the highlights of her career.

“With the World championship and then the London Olympics coming up, it will be an interesting contest. Of course I hope to be among the medallists,” said Wang Shixian

Wang Shixian added it was a hard contest against her compatriot. It is never easy to play against a team mate in every tournament.

“Yihan is a tough player to compete against. She is ranked No 1 in China and you can tell she is indeed a good player. I am happy that I have beaten her to the title but it was not easy,” added the reigning Asian Games champion.

“It’s always a tough contest whenever we meet in the crucial stages of a tournament. The gap between all of us is very tight. Anybody can be beaten.”

Wang Shixian is off to the US$1.2 million Korean Open several days later. She said that Wang Yihan is still the opponent to beat. And offcourse not forgetting Wang Xin, the No 1 seed in the Malaysian Open who was beaten by Wang Yihan in the semi-finals.
